FIRE CURTAINS

Fire Curtains for Roof Spaces and Voids

Flexible fire curtain barriers divide a roof space or concealed void into compartments, helping restrict the spread of fire and smoke. DC Fire Protection installs them to the manufacturer’s specification, working with contractors and building teams.

Flexible barriers, installed to specification

A flexible fire curtain barrier is fixed in place and sealed to the structure around it. Systems such as FIREFLY Apollo Lite 30:30, which we installed at SpaMedica Eye Hospital in Preston, use a specially treated woven glass fibre fabric that is lightweight and easy to cut and fix.

The work is completed in accordance with the manufacturer’s complete specification and installation instructions.

Around steelwork and services

Roof spaces are rarely clear. Steel members, pipes, ducts and supports all pass through the line of the barrier, and the openings around them must be sealed so the barrier keeps its performance.

Tell us what runs through the space and what access you have, and we can discuss how the installation will be planned.

What to expect from the work

The detail depends on the system your project specifies. These are the points we discuss with you first.

The specified system

Send the system requirements and drawings. We install to the manufacturer’s specification, so the product and fire rating should be confirmed before work is agreed.

Fire rating

FIREFLY Apollo Lite 30:30 offers 30 minutes’ integrity and insulation. Your project may require a different rating, so tell us what the specification calls for.

Records for your project

We use Bolster to support project documentation. Agree the records and handover arrangements with us as part of the scope.

How a fire curtain enquiry works

  1. Tell us where the building is and what you need
  2. Send the drawings, specification or report you have
  3. Agree the scope, access and programme
  4. Carry out the work and provide the agreed records

Passive curtains only

Passive, not automatic

This page covers passive fire curtain barriers that are fixed in place. If your enquiry concerns a powered or automatically deploying fire curtain, tell us explicitly so we can confirm whether it falls within our scope.

A project example

We installed passive fire barriers in a roof space at SpaMedica Eye Hospital in Preston, following a manufacturer-provided specification.

Frequently asked questions

What is a fire curtain barrier?

A flexible barrier, fixed and sealed in place, that divides a roof space or void into compartments to help restrict the spread of fire and smoke.

Are these the same as automatic fire curtains?

No. They are different service enquiries. This page covers passive barrier installation; automatic curtain capability must be confirmed separately.

Do you work from a specification?

Yes. Send the system requirements and drawings so we can review the installation scope.

Can you work in an occupied building?

Tell us about occupied areas and site procedures when you enquire. Access arrangements are agreed before work is arranged.

Have a project or remedial works requirement to discuss?

Tell us about the building, its location and the work you need. If you already have a report, drawings or a schedule of works, mention them in your enquiry so we can discuss the next step.
